The Name Escapes Me

Vertical ribbons of stippled orange, blue, violet, yellow, and navy meander across a cream field, interrupted by dark circular apertures ringed in color.

About the work

The composition is divided into vertical, softly wavering bands of cadmium orange, cerulean, violet, lemon yellow, and deep navy, each built from dense stippled cells that leave a granular cream ground visible between them. Dark circular apertures puncture the bands at irregular intervals, some held inside violet, blue, or coral rings and others opening directly onto the surrounding field; their shifting scale and placement interrupt the downward flow without breaking it. Repeated cellular marks vary from compact pebbled clusters to loose, elongated lattices, so the columns seem to expand, constrict, and exchange material as they cross the square. The pattern behaves like a system whose governing rule can be sensed but not recalled: repetition persists, mutations accumulate, and the name of the process remains just beyond reach.
