Birth of Edmund #2

Interlocking bands of deep blue and pink rise vertically across a square field, supporting clusters of circular forms in saturated reds, oranges, yellows, greens, and blues against pale cream and sky-blue grounds.

About the work

The composition is organized around two vertical, tree-like trunks—one in layered ultramarine and indigo, the other in magenta and rose—whose branching contours divide the square into interlocking zones of color. Circular forms, ranging from cadmium yellow and orange to scarlet, emerald, teal, and violet, cluster along these vertical streams, creating a rhythmic constellation that pulls the eye upward and across. Dark, mottled greens pool in irregular shapes between the circles on the left, while the right side opens into expanses of pale cerulean, mint, and cream, establishing a gentle transition from density to openness. Thin, light borders articulate each shape, emphasizing the tension between rounded geometry and fluid, biomorphic silhouettes. The title’s reference to birth subtly inflects the reading of these clustered orbs and branching structures, suggesting a generative interplay between the compressed, shadowed left and the more luminous, expansive right, without fixing the forms to a single narrative image.
