Tactility #5
A four-by-four grid of rounded square compartments contains alternating flat color fields and protruding cream-colored discs framed by dark borders.
About the work
Sixteen units are organized in a strict grid, each defined by a rounded square frame in glossy black set against a cream ground, within which vertical bands of mustard yellow, burnt orange, slate blue, and black are variously combined. In several cells a large cream disc intrudes from the left or right, partially eclipsing the colored fields and creating a tension between circular volume and rectilinear containment, while other cells remain flat, emphasizing chromatic blocks alone. The repetition of the module establishes a steady rhythm, yet small shifts in color pairing and disc placement generate a measured syncopation across the surface. Light and shadow along the frames and discs articulate a shallow relief, reinforcing the work’s emphasis on palpable edges and corners, and quietly echoing the notion of tactility implied by the title.
