Vertical bands of red, blue, green, ochre, and ivory establish a strict grid that is repeatedly interrupted by sweeping quarter-circles and smaller arcs, whose curves press against the rectilinear order without fully breaking it. Two red discs sit along a central pale column, their circular forms echoing the larger arcs while remaining enclosed by the surrounding blocks of color. The palette alternates between warm cadmium reds, oranges, and yellows and cooler cobalt blues and greens, with black and off-white acting as stabilizing intervals that slow the eye’s movement across the surface. Subtle overlaps and abutments of planes suggest shallow layers, as if each colored segment negotiates for space within a fixed framework, reinforcing the sense of a closed, inescapable structure implied by the title.
