Orphist Manifold #1

Concentric, irregular bands of color curl inward on a pale ground, forming a layered, topographic abstraction that appears to fold into itself.

About the work

An irregular, amoeboid form occupies the center of the composition, built from successive, ribbon-like bands that swell and contract as they loop around an open, light-filled core. Vermilion, forest green, ultramarine, and lemon yellow are interleaved with paler tones and deep black, each articulated through fine, parallel lines that generate a subtle vibration where colors meet. The layered contours create a sense of depth without fixed orientation, suggesting a manifold surface that turns over itself while remaining anchored to the flat plane of the support. The work stages a measured oscillation between interior and exterior, edge and center, echoing the title’s allusion to Orphist explorations of color and rhythmic form.
