Solar Lunar #2

A large orange circle and a smaller off-white circle intersect a gridded field of vertical and horizontal bands in blues, reds, and deep navy within a square format.

About the work

The composition is organized around two dominant circular forms—an expansive orange disc occupying the right half of the square and a smaller, pale ivory disc in the upper left—set against a rigorously partitioned grid of vertical and horizontal lines. Bands of cerulean and teal blue progress across the left side, gradually deepening into slate gray and Prussian blue toward the lower edge, while the orange circle shades into vermilion red along its lower quadrant, where it meets a field of near-black navy. Thin, evenly spaced vertical stripes traverse the circles and the surrounding rectangles, subtly disrupting their solidity and generating a measured rhythm across the surface. The calibrated balance of warm and cool hues, together with the overlapping circular and rectilinear geometries, evokes a temporal relationship between two celestial bodies, compressing notions of orbit, eclipse, and alignment into a single, tightly structured plane.
