About This Work

Translucent circular cells in cerulean, teal, crimson, magenta, cadmium orange, and golden yellow drift down a warm sandstone ground in loose vertical columns, each orb a wash of layered pigment that lets the tone beneath read clearly through its surface. Slender, tapering stems connect one cell to the next, narrowing to fine points where they meet, so the forms hang within a quiet circuitry of relation rather than scattering at random. Darker concentric centers anchor several of the larger discs, drawing the eye inward before releasing it along the filaments toward the next node, while the overlaps between adjacent orbs pool into soft secondary hues at their edges. The watercolor handling keeps every shape lucid and weightless, admitting light rather than blocking it, so the composition seems to breathe against its pale field. This legibility of structure—forms held in plain, unobstructed relation—gives the work its title, translating perspicuity into a visibly transparent network of color and line.
