Primitive Bookkeeping

Primitive Bookkeeping treats the picture as a ledger. Narrow vertical columns carry stacks of short parallel strokes whose small variations in length and spacing accumulate into undulating bands. In the first work, colour moves from vermillion and coral through goldenrod to cerulean and slate before surrendering to a mass of greys along a diagonal seam where the lines compress and the count accelerates.

The second widens the tally into a woven field: coral and gold ascending on the left, crossing mint and turquoise at the centre, closing into navy at the right, the grid interrupted throughout by gentle curvatures and minor slips in alignment. Ordered, and slightly unreliable. Both are offered as limited-edition giclée prints on museum-grade cotton paper.
